蜈支洲岛坐落在海南省三亚市北部的海棠湾内，是躲在海棠湾美景身后静静绽放光彩的度假天堂，有人曾把它称作中国的马尔代夫，享有中国第一潜水基地美誉，是海南岛周围为数不多的有淡水资源和丰富植被的小岛，有两千多种植物。
我国海域辽阔，有关数据显示，我国海岛数量有11000多个，要想走完这些岛，对于普通人来说，不太现实，先不说数量，很多海岛，禁止上岛，或出于生态保护的需要，或出于军事的需要，比如海南万宁大洲岛国家级海洋自然保护区范围，主要保护对象是金丝燕和海岛海洋生态系统、珊瑚礁和保护区内丰富的生物资源，按相关法律规定，任何单位、个人未经许可禁止进入大洲岛搭建生产、生活设施及开展旅游活动，违者将依法处理。
